ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Fakhruddin G Ebrahim has tendered his resignation. The resignation has been sent to the presidency for approval.
"I want the new parliament to elect a new Chief Election Commissioner," Ebrahim said.
Ebrahim a former Supreme Court judge was appointed as the CEC on 23 July 2012 by President Zardari after being approved by a parliamentary panel. The May 11, 2013 general elections and the presidential election were held during his tenure.
Ebrahim had been criticized for rigging during the general elections and the recent change in the polling date for the presidential election.
